Miss Leonidas – 1st in Heat 6 over 800m in 47.46s
The Bendigo speedster is back and has lost none of her pace, scorching up the turf to run a sizzling time for the morning in 47.46 seconds, which is low flying for a Cranbourne 800-metre trial. The way she went about her work was that of a more professional horse this time in. With Dwayne Dunn on board she led up the field and extended her lead in the straight to post an impressive victory under a hold. She seemed quite relaxed throughout the heat, which is a positive sign going forward as in the past she had been a bit keen to get on with it. The big tick for me was that a good short-course horse like Beau Rada was pushed along to get near her, a great indication of how fast this mare is. With a handicap rating of just 75, she can be backed anywhere on resumption as she likely won’t be taking on anything harder than open grade. She could be a real top line talent this girl in time and her trial was that of a very good horse.
